Eric Larson

Eric Larson is Senior Director of Creating IT Futures’ signature initiative, IT Futures Labs, which researches, develops, tests and launches innovative non-profit programs tailored for the IT sector that help women, ethnic minorities, and unemployed or under-employed individuals.

Larson has worked in the journalism and non-profit fields for more than 20 years. In the 1990s, he served as a staff writer at the Anniston Star newspaper, where he won Alabama Associated Press awards for community service writing and deadline reporting and later served as a stringer for Newsweek. At the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin, he successfully wrote for more than $6 million in grants funding. He has served as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer and founded his own multimedia company. Larson joined Creating IT Futures in 2011.

IT Futures Labs researches best practices in tech-based STEM programs and workforce development across the nation. In the past few years, IT Futures Labs’ research has led to our first investigative study on what teens really think of tech careers. Larson currently is directing the multi-year NextUp initiative which aims to attract more teens to tech careers. In 2017, NextUp is working with the following partners: FUSE (through Northwestern University), New York Academy of Sciences, and TechGirlz.

Larson graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in English from Duke University and earned his MBA from East Carolina University.

Today he serves from a home-based office in Raleigh, N.C., where he and his wife cater to three young children.
